I Just Woke Up

You know when you first open your eyes but the dream you were just in still stirs in your vision?
Maybe you don’t but I do dream vividly every single night and
when I wake up there is a moment
like a blink where dreamland is still floating in my eyes
lingering in my mind.
Where this reality feels like the “dream” and the dream feels like reality.
Just a blink of a world without hate, where the people and the planet are safe before my heart sinks my body sighs
the dream vanishes from my eyes.
When I first open after hours of being folded, where I have been engulfed in a world my brain molded
loose is the grasp of who I am and what I’m doing, then in mere seconds the grasp tightens to the max making getting up less appealing.
So many people of the world live day to day in a daze so thick they insist they are certain this fog is real just like I could have sworn I was just swimming in a sea with red dolphins before I climbed torn curtains.
So much confusion.
The grasp tightens
this is why the sleep is an escape
or is it a lesson?

About this poem

I wrote this short poem right after I woke up one morning. I dream vividly every single night and writing helps me process them. I wish to share it to see if anyone out there connects with the experience of dreams feeling realer than life.
