Star

Star

From a distance I gazed upon your face
And I felt the light of timeless energy
Touch me in spite of the distance
You reach across millions of miles
And spell your name repeatedly
Not the one my kind gives you
But the one surely known
Only to your brothers and sisters

From a long time ago and far away
I see your beauty glowing
The faint crown your share
Everyone sees but perhaps passes by
You are more than decoration
Around you must dance your children
And like you, they bear names
You repeat to me in luminous ripples

From an early walk or a nightly gaze
You have my constant admiration
I see you without glass or machines
Only with my own two eyes
Though I see your family
More numerous than I can imagine
I abide with one blue member
Happy to share their shoulder to see you

From now on, I will write your name
On the face of my heart
Each time I spend a moment
Looking up to find you in the dark
And when the blue sky
Takes its time to walk across
I will recite the words “Per aspera ad astra”
And dream of the day I am with you.
