I Will Always Be There.

Did I hurt you as they did? Did I ever make you feel worthless or was I always there? Did I always answer even if I knew I was your last resort? Even though you only called because you knew I was always there, maybe that's my problem. Perhaps I need to stop being there for people that are not there for me back. People that won't answer the phone when I truly need someone. I always answered. What you called to talk about was another person's attention that you were not getting. The only reason I was getting yours was that you didn't have anyone else that cared about you as much as I did. I told you no matter what I would always be there for you. I will. But one day, I won't answer. I won’t be your last resort. One day I won’t answer your text because I'm done being the last person you call. Well, now it doesn’t even matter because you don't call at all. At the end of the day, you knew I would always be there; I don't think I'll be there anymore. Because I didn’t hurt you as they did. I didn’t ever make you feel worthless. I was always there. I always answered even if I knew I was the last resort. But despite that, I wasn’t who you wanted. She was.

About this poem

I had a friend. I put my all into a friendship that was solely one-sided. She was seeking attention from someone else while I was seeking attention from her. I never failed her but she constantly failed me. She will never know the pain I feel. It will simply be a pain not healed just concealed.
