Uncomfortable Fears
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
Uncomfortable we become with the unknown.
Although to all,
We live with change.
Changes everyday.
That comes to us.
And face we do throughout each year.
Since born to do from little kids.
Each step we make could not be done,
Without a change being made.
To graduate and grow.
With a doing to leave behind,
A familiarity of that we accept to believe...
It known.
Nolonger fearing,
That which has been explored to adventure.
Today?
People are made to live on assumptions.
And expectations not yet near to arrive.
But feel threatened by allegations.
To prioritize and gossip about.
From Sundown until Sunrise.
Even though the Sun does not set.
Or on the horizon rise at all.
This effect is created by the Earth's rotation.
And no one fears the Moon or Sun.
If they both should disappear.
Yet...
We are left to fear,
Man-made threats everyday to hear.
The rise of crime.
The rise of ethnic diversity.
And high price it takes,
To stretch a dollar to fake impressions made.
From morning, noon and night.
With this done to have us believe,
Pretensions to make them...
Are more important to prioritize,
Than truth and its reality.
Uncomfortable become,
The fears of the unknown.
Before they are shown.
Yet quick we are to defend against,
Suspicions.
Appearances.
And opinions of others.
Incompetent to sit,
In positions to make decisions.
To allow ourselves to be made their fools!
Validating...
How easy it can be done!
'I am no fool.
I keep updated with the latest news.'
'And...
This latest news of yours you get from where?'
'TV, MOVIES, VIDEOS, THE INTERNET.
And reliable gossip I hear on the streets.
Where else?
You may be a fool to make.
But a fool I will never be made one!'
'I see.
I too became so comfortable with the known.
That I denied,
A repeating of what was familiar...
Kept me comfortable enough,
To fear the changing of times.
And I too refused to think of myself a fool.'
'I guess so.
For you that may be true.
But you are also much older than I am!'
'I could and would say,
Your statement makes perfect sense.
But with you I have to agree,
We are of different generations!'
'Well...
I could and would say you are right.
But which generation,
Represents and produces more fools?'
'That depends,
On who's point of view...
Is more observant to witness,
What it takes to make more fools.
And I will say,
Being much older than you.
That my generation,
Is more reflective than subjected.'
'You old people,
Can be depended upon...
To say the most ridiculous stuff.'
'I know.
There was a time I thought the same thing!'
