Everything Wanted To Wish

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

I have prayed and prayed,
For everything I wanted wished to get.
Yet God seems to dismiss my wishes.
To leave me,
With the very thing...
I never prayed for to want.

'You know,
I have heard it said God knows best.
And deliver to us what we need.
As if to be tested.
What was it that God gave to you,
That you never prayed for to want?'

Annoyance.
With a continual daily headache.
As if this message to test me,
Has something to do with my lack of patience.
And my need to work on having tolerance.
Especially with those,
Doing all they can to get on my last nerve.

'Maybe God is using people like that too!'

Why on Earth and for what?

'That's a good question.
But so glad am I to have a friend like you.
I can call any hour of any day.
Even before dawn sometimes.
And early right after midnight.
To talk about what bothers me.
Until I am able to fall asleep peacefully.
You have no idea,
What having a friend like you means to me.
Oh, yeah.
I almost forget.
Did you change your telephone number?
This morning I called.
And someone answered sounding Chinese.
Saying it was too early to place order.
Out searching for soy sauce.'

Hmmm...
That's very strange.

'I thought so too.
Then I called back and the line was busy.
That's when I decide to come over.
To see how you were doing.'

I'm feeling great.
It seems a long time since,
I have gotten so much rest.

'You look it too.
There is nothing like taking the time,
To get one's much needed rest.'

God always provides the way.

'Amen to that.
Oh well...
Gotta go.
What you doing later?'

I'm thinking about learning to speak French.
Maybe German.

'Why German?
French they say is the language of lovers.
German seems harsh.
And too difficult to speak.'

I'll give both a try.
