"Ribcage of ice"

Do you know how cold it’s been
since you’ve gone?
The nights stretch
like there’s no end,
and the stars throw ice
that cuts through flesh
and bone.
And I’m supposed to
pretend like I’m okay,
like the chill doesn’t wreck me
fresh every night?
Do you know how cold it’s been
when I can’t even bear
to feel my own heart
in a ribcage of ice?
How much strength
will I need
for tomorrow,
when you still
aren’t here?
