The truth

Have i seen you before
Have you ever existed
Many find you as a necessity
Yet they discard you

They've tarnished your name
Claiming they know you
Yet they never met you
Yet they always oppose you

They say your power is in the tongue
They say your taste is bitter
They say it's like medicine
Bitter, yet it heals

How easy it would be
If we live in a world where you rule
Maybe some families would be mended
Maybe some relationships would be intact

You have been given to us
We have tarnished your name
You've lost your value and meaning
We cannot tell the difference in you and lies

How lucky is the fellow
The fellow who lives by your rules
The fellow whose robes have never been tainted
For he lives in peace, he is free of chains

It is true that you always catch up with us
No matter the distance,
No matter the destination,
It's only up to one to pray
That we get our act together as you near.

About this poem

Writing this poem, I was in a place of self doubt where I questioned my decisions and those of the people around me. It was a time where I questioned if people really were familiar of the term truth as there was a lot of manipulation and lies around me at the time. Writing this poem has helped me be able to express how I felt and it has helped me to clear the confusion around me and I am hoping it will do the same for all the readers out there.
