The Monsters in my Mind

The darkness stretches into the loneliness of night
Tormenting demons all come out, to stand and fight
Struggles between what was and should have been
Remorse strong, stomach churning, and yet unseen

Cold tendrils like icy fingers play down the spine
Closing into the black abyss of space and time
Monsters and nightmares, both come out to play
Hands reaching blindly, for the greyness that’s day

Suffocating night fades into the harsh light of day
Monsters and darkness, for now held at bay
New fears arise of what is and what might be
Long fingered shadows, desperately break free

Chaos and mayhem close in, no hope of escape
Terror, now forming, into one shadowy shape
Finally, nothing, no sense of reality remains
Too far gone now, to pull free of the chains
