The Indian Rail

cheena Puri 1973 (Jaipur)

The Indian Rail

The mesmerizing sound of the whistle of the Indian rail,
 Rushing forward on its trail.
The expanse of mud hills on either side of the steamy soldier with its unwavering and   ardent gaze,
Focused to reach its destination in haste.
Gushing forward with its fervent red and black cloak,
Donning its majestic armour with its rumbling roar.
It didn’t know someone is enchanted by its grace and rushes out to get a glimpse of its shooting pace.
Will you hold on for some time and let me absorb your heroic demeanor for a while!!!
To keep your image a bit longer on my mind’s frame.
But not to halt, not to break and not to  look back is its shining fate.

About this poem

This poem emerged as a nostalgic remembrance of my childhood joy of watching the rushing train pass by on the the railway track just across our home . The sight of the speeding train filled me with exhilaration and this feeling from childhood inspired me to bring alive that emotion in the form of this poem.

This poem is a '' recollection of emotions recollected in tranquility" about he wondrous emotion of joy and excitement I had experienced as child watching the steam engine pass by across my home.On hearing the sound of the whistle and roar of the engine gurgling loud I used to run out to get a glimpse of the rushing train . This poem expresses the perception of a young child who experiences everything with wondrous eyes , the sound , the colour of usual things also becomes so special and novel in the eyes of a child .
