The Bleeding Future

Gabriel S. Weah 1998 (Montserrado county, Liberia)

Where is our hierarchy?
Where are our so-called future leaders?
We have been infringed by the mightier hands,
We have been placed in a reservoir of gashes,
Still, our future is bleeding.

Under who ceiling are we standing?
On which bed are we taking a nap?
On who lips shall our letters be uploaded?
Search not in the bags and wallets of leaders,
For your tears will surely fill buckets.

Our future is bleeding,
Our molars cannot process, because of pains
Our brethren are growing up, yet, nothing to show
What legacy will they follow, o! confused intellects?
Don't you know frustration is conforming to us?!

We have the appetite to learn,
We have the power to articulate,
But why our future is still bleeding?
O, power is the reserve of our leaders,
As lies are the costume of their lips.

About this poem

The Bleeding Future_ is a poem that speaks about leaders who contaminate poor people and used them in tears because of power and finance. It also speaks about the uncertainty and misery these people undergo solely after paying their taxes, no benefits; the little words they speak smashed them in prison, death, or somewhere else because of their ineptitude for justice.
