ASHANTI

Poem Title- Ashanti
Written By Amah Andy Netochukwu

Ashanti, my mother's delight
The ashes across my face
Your beauty touches
The river around my heart
Black skin, Ashanti
Daughter of Africa
Your glowing skin attracts me

I stand and wait in the bush path
Ashanti, pass so I can live!
The bushes around have known me
So we can talk and laugh
Forever

Ashanti,
Let's seat alone
Under my father's peer tree, for
My mother had gone to the market
And father to the forest
Let me see your pleasant smile's
Smile's that heal my soul
Ashanti,
Let's go into the grooves
There is no one there
We can play and run around
Love have made us little children

My mother tasted your meal
And rejected my sister's
Ashanti,
Hold my hand let's walk away
Let the evening breeze blow sanity into us
For our love would never end.
My traps had caugh meats
They have decayed; let them be for there is no meat as sweet as you

Ashanti,
Our village boys and girls
Envy us, we are lover birds
Let me play the drum
So you dance under the rain

Seat close to me
Rest on my chest
For both of us are one
Let's look at the stars
They are the numbers of our children

Let me always hold you
When you cry
I can't let you go no matter the lies my sisters tell
For the gods has blessed our union
