Untitled

Benjamin Brantley 1984 (Winston-Salem, North Carolina)

Come lark, out of the night sky!
Tell me of the moon & stars as though I'd never seen them.
The tallest peak, the deepest sea: and all the land between them.
Tell me a tale of far off worlds, O' how I long to dream them.
Will men and gods forever be entangled in their fight?
O' tell me, will there ever be a sunrise o'er this sable night?
Please save me from this dismal fate!
Tell me of miraculous splendor
When all the world crumbles before my eyes like a fire's dying embers.

About this poem

This was written during a sick period in my life, and though I did not feel as though I would die, I was being a little dramatic.
