Claims

Where is my art in this
Can I lay claim to thy pain?

A transplant seeded in rich soil
Is this my little spot to stay

Whose stunted but determined
Whose growth do I owe this to

The right question is what can I do
But the better question is what can I hold

What can I handle and is that even mine

I say yes this is the best I can do
And what matters is giving it all back

Breath if in and send it out
Little room for doubtless

Doubtfull, no doubt
I will slip up. As we all do

About this poem

I have chosen family whose pain is rooted in past injustices. This is about my feeling of inevitable attempts to try and own it to get rid of it, even when it's not mine to own. It's hard watching someone suffer, the best we can do is ask them to honour our love by sharing it with us. That's even harder, I think, to share it.
