The best was saved ‘til last

Royston 1946 (Reading)

The best was saved until the last
and all other wine was surpassed.
For He turned water into wine
and things of earth became divine.

Changed from glory into glory
Common turned extraordinary,
Acts of love from the hands of Christ
Hands that were pierced through sacrifice.

Miracle of all miracles
as upon me His mercy falls
He lifts me from the miry clay
setting me free to walk His way

About this poem

John 2:9-10 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”
