Rudiments Of Life

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

There is nothing wrong with anyone,
Wanting to start and begin...
An organization that represents,
Their interest yet not their experience.
To then seek and get funding.
Done to be admired at best.
Pledging to confess,
The only purpose that is kept in their minds...
Focused.
Is the educational experience received,
Will enlightened and uplift..
Those living in disadvantaged communities.

With one exception...
Turning away from suggestions,
AND free advice given...
Coming from the field,
Of one's interest to claim and express.
Yet with no experience,
To achieve it taught first to receive and get.
Will eventually expose,
Where the funding went.
To have this explained away...
As a displaying of an elaborate decor,
Explores the images to mentally imagine...
What those expect much more to learn.
Than sitting in an elaborate environment.
While smelling the scents,
Of expensive floral arrangents.
In designer vases.

Then asked...
If anyone among the ones listening,
Is familiar with the rudiments of life.
And what part of it does breathing play?

'Huh?
We...
What?'

In any urban neighborhood,
This act is openly portrayed to disbelieve...
People buying this B.S.
Can be purposely and easily betrayed.
Just for being willing participants,
To be unknowingly deceived.
And volunteering it done.
Without pay to be convinced,
The experience they will receive is priceless.

'You know,
It takes a village to raise a child.'

'Uh...
What is the curriculum?'

'The...
What?'

'You know,
The required studies to advance...
To the next stage of progress made.
And it expected from instructors selected,
To teach us what they know.
That will allow this experience of our minds,
To bloom and grow!'

'Oh, that?
First things first.
We have yet ironed out those details.
However...
Until the interior designers,
Have finished the concept...
Of how we envision what that will be,
For all of us to see it concrete?
All I can say,
As I wipe tears from my eyes away.
It is you,
You...
The students,
Who continue to show to us...
With your ambition, incentive and insight.
As to how your expectations and ours,
Can come together and meet...
A suitable representation of that agenda!'

'Your explanation?
Brilliant.
It must have taken you a very long time,
To create and make up such nonsense...
That a funding to receive,
For your organization without experience too?
Is as miraculous as the decor,
That stuns the eyes when the door opens.'
And...uh...
What is the name of this organization,
To put on our applications?'

'Hmmm...
How about,
'BE YOU AS GIFTED TO TEACH'

'Teach?
Teach what?'

'Life to love teaching.'

'Theft, corruption or fraud?'

'That may be a consideration.
Depending upon,
How advanced our students become.
Who knows...
You may be the beginning,
Of a franchise to start.'
