The cape just wouldn't fit.

A scorching hot July night
With words of fear and wit..
I heard him cry from outside.
but the cape just wouldn't fit.

I floored the living room door..
Anxiety giving me a fit...
Legs heavy " just a few feet more.".
but the cape just wouldn't fit.

Dashing toward the creaking stairs
I heard him cough and spit.
Beg and pleaing burning prayers.
but the cape just wouldn't fit..

Opening up that chamber door.
Light shining through a slit.
His knees were planted to the floor.
but the cape just wouldn't fit..

Dirty tears rolled down his cheek.
The monster grin and grits
Asking for help unable to speak
but the cape just wouldn't fit..

Trembling with angst I run for help
Then a thud on my head with fists.
Tried to move with legs like kelp.
but the cape just wouldn't fit..

The monster yanked me by the neck
and yelled " don't move bitch sit".
Dazed with stars and quite perplexed
but the cape just wouldn't fit..

Trammelled vision but saw the evil
Like Satan trapping souls in pits.
Screaming to find mom for  repreival
but the cape just wouldn't fit..

It's 3 am and I hear a voice
It's mom drunk and sick.
I have to tell her I have no choice
I hope her cape will fit..

I start to speak here comes my dad
Full of cocaine, vinegar and piss .
" goawn to bed fo I kick yo ass".
again , the cape just wouldn't fit.

I woke at dawn and rushed to mom
To tell her what she missed
she just said " what" confused and calm
My cape began to fit..

Through the years the little boy
whose innocence was stripped
Cured his pain with girl and boy.
While I searched for a cape that fit.

One fall night I saw the monster
Lurking behind trees and sticks
Watching for other kids to plunder.
in a cape of abominable shit..

Ambushing him slow I was ready
Cold steel pressed to his chin.
It glided ear to ear nice and steady
the cape , it Finally fit...

I  went to find the little boy
Hard lines , sunken cheeks and  stiff.
Not a beating heart or voice.
and a cape that never fit..

Weeping tears I held him close
And said " of you I'll miss"
I wish I could have Long ago
Found a cape that  would fit.

But the monster is finally dead and gone
I found courage to take care of it.
Rest now in a majestic summers dawn.
I hope you're proud, I found a cap that fit.

-To a loved one who is not dead but very much alive. May every sunset heal you more-
