Reflection

Christian Mack 1996 (Beaver Dam, Wisconsin)

I stared into an abyss so black
It was cold, it was lonely,
And my reflection didn’t look back
That which peered at me was was so vile
So seductive yet so macabre
All I could do was stare for a while
Twas not phantom nor ghost
i was shown illusions
Visions of which I fear most
What was depicted stole away my breath
Twas not sights of loss
Nor premonitions of death
I saw in the frame myself so evil
It was my own reflection
What glared at me was I the Devil.
