Between the rocks

Meera66 1966 (New Delhi)

Between the rocks, the smooth cool rocks
The dainty river trips
With suppressed laughter and half mocks
It traces Gaea’s lips

Hair blowing in the hot dusty breeze
Caked lips and eyes
Streaming with the acid
Acid in the rain
A dull pain
That begins
With the throbbing ankles
And rises to the temples, hotly

Upon the rocks, the smooth cool rocks,
The sea does burst in glee
With waves and waves it gaily mocks
The spray floats upward free

For this is the world that is dying
Burning with a liquid fire
Death is not dark but white
White hot like the burning sky
And the eyes seek the horizon
For a trace of a cloud
A dark, dark cloud
Bringing a cool rain
Soothing and cleansing

For this is the desert
of the ashes and the bones
Bleached a creamy white.
