In an eternity long, long ago

Royston 1946 (Reading)

In an eternity long, long ago
“Here I am, and I am willing to go,”
to The Father and Spirit, said the Son,
and this was agreed with the Triune One

“I will be born a child by Virgin birth,
grow up as a man and walk upon earth,”
“The things kept secret since the world began
I’ll reveal to them as the Son of Man.”

Golgotha’s rugged hill, I will ascend
and deep into the grave I’ll then descend.
For upon that cross I’ll lay down my life
and save humankind by my sacrifice.

With my arms outstretched to those passing by
I will embrace them so they will not die.
For it's my desire that they all might live,
and to accomplish this, my life I’ll give.
