than what was

"live in the present and not the past"
                they tell me, they lambaste

                   but they've never met you
              they haven't the faintest clue
                      of your irresistible allure
of your beauty, so fair and pure

if only they knew you as I did
                        then perhaps they'd rid
themselves of these foolish thoughts
and realize it's all for naught
                           for nothing can better
                                        than what was
