Restlessness

My mind screams in the darkness.
Oh but a switch to turn off this busy mind.
My pillow speaks and bemoans my discomfort.
Blissful sleep is but a dream that cannot be achieved.

Where are my keys? What time is it now?
Soothing music is but annoyance in my ears.
The silence though is screaming and is deafening.

My eyes are sandpits of torment.
Reading is futile as is a pleasant thought.
I worry in anger for cause unknown.
My gut is tight my brain is drowning.
Stop thinking and close my eyes.
I see visions in my minds eye.

Eyes open or closed the light is there.
I flip I turn I drink from a glass.
As I finally drift off the morning sun betrays me.

About this poem

I battle anxiety and depression. It effects my sleep. One morning after fighting sleep all night yet again I jotted this down.
