Rain

Rain *
The flash of lights shows her pensive face, mid thought
It brightens her eyes in a childlike joy
And Giggles trickle out of her loud smile

The rain it slithers through the cracks
Of broken cobble stone streets
She’s two steps ahead
With thoughts racing through the silence of a thunderstorm

The water hugs her face
Time blinks
the smooth street light
Breaks the night

The broken laughs and longing stares
Grow to a tripped mind
Stuck between the yes or the no
The rain or the thunder

Would rather you wish for the flash of lightning to brighten the sky
Or sit in the calmness of the falling rain

Would rather you have the sky crack in an instant
And stare in awe against the refracted light
Or watch the changing streets from a window above

And now a quiet piano paints the sky
With sprinkles of polished taps
Crossing the darkened night
Black and white clouds
Glide to the slow grace of music

it seems to slow
Till the tapping has gone silent
And all is forgotten
As the sun breaks the sky

About this poem

I wrote this poem after walking back from a train station through a warm rain with my friend who I had fallen in love with while living in a different country
