One Action and All Is Lost

Inside there is a rising storm

A simple task I must perform.

Though years have passed since last I did,

I swore this thing I would forbid.

Now things have changed and do I must

I hope my instinct I can trust.

Deep breath I take before the act,

But what in me will this impact?

For most this is a simple thing,

Blind to horrors it could bring.

I have lived it so I know,

Haunted by a past shadow.

Shake off the scene inside my head

Of friends and strangers lying dead.

Keep eyes open and follow through,

Being sure my aim is true.

Finally I pull the trigger,

The meaning to me is something bigger,

But this time no one has to fall,

The act itself so very small.

I thought it was in just a game

But no one returned from this flame.

The things I saw on my t.v.

Without redemption I could see.

I cannot bring back the lives I took.

The reality I forsook.

In this world death’s not a game

No acted thing with great acclaim.

The lives I took were so much more.

Their lost potential I abhor.

To all that think life is a game

Life lost you can not reclaim.

Damage to the future you cost

It is your fault forever lost.

And should the world end today

It came because you lost your way.
