Ode to my Starry Love.

Yahya Aslam 1999 (Udaipur)

Don't we all want to be Stars and among them?

I know we're apart but aren't we all just stardust?

And my lover tells me I'm her North Star and I hoped I could be her constant,

But I'm just a North Star and not her Sun,

I just make her happy when she sees me and in my arms she wants to be, but she's warm because of her Sun.

Stars, you must be seeing what I do and how I feel,

Am I not your dust?

Stars can you please change your places, I want to make my lover proud?

She tells me how much she adores me, she feels adorned by me and how much she wishes I were not broken,

Stars, can you rewind the time a bit, I got my lovers wishes to fulfill.

I promise to not be someone I regret being now,

I promise to be truthful Stars and I promise to make my lover proud.

And to my lover who will never say it, sorry for being a disappointment,

I hope Stars give me another chance and meanwhile you give me hope?

I love you hope and Stars do too,

They're having this conversation with me because they want you happy more than I do,

But they just pull the strings and they have,

They're giving my next life in your hands, for that I could die too!

Thank you Stars,

For bringing my hope back to me.

Thank you Hope,

For being my lover and trusting your hand with me.

About this poem

I wrote this poem to celebrate and chisel the idea of my lover, who like stars shines even on a cloudy day, hoping to keep the fire of hope lit.
