Nobody's Queen

I am nobody’s queen

Because I choose to be ...... just that.

Nobody’s.

To be a queen, I must first learn to be a princess.

To be a princess, I must learn to be a woman.

To be a woman, I must first become myself.

How can a queen lead if she can not yet know her own mind?

Why should a king sit by my side, when I do not yet know what side my shadow would fall?

Should not I know my own strength?

Should not I tame my own weakness?

To be known, as queen, to myself first.

Before I become queen to another.

I am nobody's queen.

Of this I am sure.

Not yet, and no qualms.

To be queen, my crown I must first fix.

To own this crown, my naked pride must I clothe.

With robes that I must weave with threads of good labor.

I can not claim another's crown nor clothe with another's labor.

I will not weave with deceit or take pride in false standings.

Should I stand tall with such lowly welcome?

Should I wane gray with the whispers of shade?

I would first seek a state of high esteem.

Before I can become the queen I am meant to be.

About this poem

I wrote the poem because I was learning how to be alone, without being lonely. It was a decision to rebuild my image and character, wanted to heal and 'fix my crown', instead of rushing into another relationship.
