Flightless

Timm Henry 1990 (St. Louis)

July 22

Some people aren't afraid of heights. They can
dimb to the top of any tree without any care. Me? I
can barely get my feet off the ground before I start
to feel uneasy. My mind starts running the further
I climb what if I miss my footing or the branch I'm
holding on to breaks. I imagine falling to feel like
floating inside of a shoebox there's nothing between
you and the ground just air and time. But time in
that shoebox goes by so fast your body hits the
ground while your soul takes the next exit out
staring at the brokenness that's your vessel you're
suppose to carry. But you feel free now escaping
captivity, but it's not your time to escape. Your body
latches on pulling your soul back in kicking and
screaming. Till you awake and your the one
screaming that's why I choose to stay on the ground,
cause the strongest thing to do is be alive.
