Dad
In Loving Memory
in honor
Of
Dad
When we were babies,
you decided to adopt us
You took us in & raised us as your own
that has meant so much to us
When we needed love,
You were there to give us your love
When we needed a hand,
You gave us a helping hand
When we were down,
You were there to lift up our spirit
When we needed support,
You were the one who always supported us
When we needed guidance,
You were the one to help guide us along the way
When we needed comforting,
You always made us feel comfortable
When we needed some advice,
You were the one who always gave us your opinion, we didn't always agree but you gave it to
us anyway
When we were sad,
You always brought a smile to our face
When we she's tears,
Your dried the tears from our weepy eyes
When we needed someone to talk to,
you sat us down to talk with us
When we didn't understand,
You done what you could to help us understand
you
When the times were tough,
You always gave us the encouragement
we needed to get through it
When we needed confidence,
You gave us the strength that we needed
to face our fears
When we needed a friend,
you weren't just our dad
you were our mentor
and our friend, too
and will always be our best friend, Dad!
Your memory lives in our hearts,
We will always love you!!
About this poem
I wrote this poem in honor of my dad after he loss his battle with colon cancer. He was diagnosed back in May of 1998 and he fought with it for five years. He did both chemo and radiation treatments and it had shrunk it. In December of 2001 I was at a friend's house and received a call in the middle of the night that my dad was rushed to the hospital and I had to go home to my family. A few hours later we received a call saying that his cancer was back and it was more aggressive this time and that there was nothing more they could do for him except to make him comfortable. Back in April of 2002 at six pm that night he went home to be with the Lord. It was the most painful stressful time in my life and I felt empty for so long. I wrote this poem in memory of him to honor him in all that he taught me. more »
