I have been weighed and have been found lacking.

Royston 1946 (Reading)

MENE, MENE, AND TEKEL UPHARSIN.
I have been weighed and have been found lacking.
The finger of God wrote for all to see
upon the wall incriminating me.

Then it turned and pointed, piercing my soul
and I fell on my knees wanting to be whole.
I’ve come to the cross and kneel at your feet
needing forgiveness, to be made complete.

About this poem

The Methodist DBS checking procedure results in a contract being made with those with a record which, though based on safeguarding, it can result in the person feeling as though they have been “weighed and found lacking.” This feeling is difficult to reconcile with Hebrews 8:12 - For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.
