In The Midst Of It

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

Not from a distance observed approaching.
Nor left to leave behind.
Knowing what it is,
Found to find discovered...
Has no worth to value.
Or a single long lasting benefit.

Yet...
In the midst,
Of an identifiable pretentiousness.
Covered under several aging layers,
Smothered in protective ignorance.
Many still will oppose the truth heard to hear.
Not to admit being afraid of it.
Yet neither to commit to it lived.
Whenever it comes near to threaten,
A defending of their beliefs kept to keep...
Themselves victimized.
Yes.
Self inflicted is their victimization.
Even if aware and conscious of it.
Why?

'Why?
Look around.
And you're asking me why?
People will continue to disbelieve the truth.
That's one reason why.
To then be heard soliciting from others,
A praying away the effects of truth.
A praying away most do,
The effectiveness of what truth produces.
With the truth of what they do to themselves,
To depict as evil deeds to deny a doing of it!
And you ask me, WHY?'

Don't look at me.
I asked you first.
Those same folks almost had me convinced,
I was the one crazed.
Attempting with them to use common sense.

'Then what happened?'

I have been told,
I didn't know what I was talking about.
And I should be ignored for being so stupid.

'That is stupid.
Me?

No time do I have to spare and waste,
With anyone who has no clue or hint...
As to how to use their own minds.

However,
I will say this...
If you choose to be approved,
And accepted by them?
Congratulations.
That should for you be no problem at all.
Since you have already shown,
You will do anything...
To waste your time and mind to prove,
Having common sense to use...
Means nothing to you either!
I think...
You have passed the pledge test.'

I object.
I object to your comments.
I'm too concerned about others.
To just do nothing and turn away.

'My eyes?
Are beginning to moisten.
From my right eye,
I feel a tear about to fall.
PSYCH!
To turn away is painful.
The first time done.
However...
That to do becomes easier.
Practice is the key.
Let me show you how it's done.'

Huh?
Where...
Where are you going?
You trying to ignore me?
YOU TRYING TO IGNORE ME?
I KNOW YOU HEAR ME!
