Understanding Achieved

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

You feel me.
You hear me.
You know what I'm sayin'.

'I do not feel you to hear,
A word to understand...
Coming out of your mouth...
I must have misunderstood,
What it was you said.
Repeat it to me for my own clarity.'

I said,
If it has to drop to pop from stopping it.
Who can wish to be in the way,
Of a splash that gets them wet.
You feel me.
You hear me.
You know what I'm sayin'.
Spread me up some five high!

'Where you from?'

The hood, man.
Gee where you be?

'It took me years to discover Ebonics.
To realize it was not an updated version,
Of Pig Latin.
What am I not understanding to achieve it?
And...
You say you have a Master's degree,
In Linguistics?'

No.
You misunderstood.
I said earlier,
That I have mastered the art...
Of a listening fixed to diction given.
Do you feel me to hear me now?
Give me the word!

'Me up from the outside,
To know the inside.
And top from where the bottom it flows.'

There you go.
Spread me up some high five.
That's what the problem is today.
People don't take the time,
To know each other.
With a wanting to wish it felt in the mind.
Upstairs is where the attic is.
Turn that light on.
Either pull the cord or flip the switch.

'Now that I feel to hear it achieved,
Clearly to understand...
Where you've been to come from!'

It took you long enough.
Once you become more familiar...
With communicating your thoughts.
The better it becomes,
To understand the dreams of other people.
You feel me?

'I'm getting closer.'

To me?
Or to the door?
With your hand on the doorknob.

'I know what you're sayin'.
Time has a way,
To keep what is needed to be done.
Without a word to hear it spoken.
This I am sure you see it to feel happen!
Me up from the outside,
To have had enough of the inside.
After learning where my comfort is loved!'

I got you to keep that kept upstairs to stick!
