Lance

Douglas H. Mc Clintock 1934 (Sarnia, Ontario)

I once knew a cat named Lance,
He had a sister  named Loretta
He visited select houses and not by chance
Fluffy orange and white, he was quite the fella !

Lance was a cat very street smart,
Looking both ways to cross the street
To the woods catching mice for his desert
One word to describe him, he was so neat !

Lance was my neighbor's cat
Living next door but he liked me the best,
Jumping up on  our window still, just like that,
Let me in, I want to be your guest !

We spoiled him with tuna and salmon
Living the good life, he always said his thanks, meow
Every morning, when he saw me, he ran with a passion
Give me my breakfast now !

We put a red ribbon around his neck
He was very proud to have that,
He was called the Mayor   because he was so smart,
He was known as the kitty cat diplomat !

Alas, things came to an end
He died in a neighbor 's shed where he slept,
His owner said, "bury him in your backyard
He was never my cat !
