Crime and Punishment

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

Everyone has trouble breathing; they fight to catch their breath.
Their lives are all lived in deception, right up till their death.
Although the light shines ever brighter in this dark domain.
They close their eyes to all that’s true and will not use their brain.
They have a book that they don’t read; they try to pass the time.
And when their time is finally finished, then they see their crime.
When everything is fun and games, then who can find direction?
And why is it when there is danger, you won’t seek protection?
