Maybe Next Generation

It’s been a minute
Since I’ve written
Now I’ve been reminiscing
About all the things I’ve been missing

The times that we were worry free
Without responsibilities
Endless opportunities
Waiting to see what the future brings

Now the future’s here
And everything’s unclear
Of which direction to steer
While we remain in high gear

We were supposed to change the world
Instead we’ve curled
Hidden and burrowed
Blended in with the “do as told”

Immersed in the book, gram and tok
Overloaded with news and talk
Then able to “take a break”
While lives are at stake

Wish I had a solution
To all of this convolution
But it’s so fatiguing
All the wrong we’re seeing

People refusing harmony
Like it can’t be afforded in this economy
Violence, anger, hate
Instead of love, happiness, safe

Pray, sign, vote
What can we do but hope
That the next generation won’t simply cope
And instead fight back
To get everything back - on track
