With Kept Wishes To Want

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

What it is I may want.
With kept wishes to get.
And what it is,
Today on your list of needs...
Has for me,
Left that much more of a priority.
Than continuing to feed,
My own selfishness to please.
Of a getting what I wanted.
To then done not to need.
But...
Eventually leave for something else to want.

It occurred to me just recently,
Your needs have yet to come to be pleased.
Forgive my assumption but this I perceive.
And for whatever the reason,
This bothered me consciously.
To leave me to do something about it.
Immediately.

'Hi.
What a surprise.
I didn't expect you,
At my door to arrive.
Wassup?
Is there something you would like,
Me to do for you?'

I...I...
Here!
I want you to have this.

'You don't have to do this.'

Do what?

'Give to me what it is you may need.
Packaged and wrapped.
And unopened to see.'

This I give,
Is not a need.
But a want to do for you.
I too believed I needed.
But...
Perhaps you can better use?

'I can.
But...
You can too.
Can't you?'

I could.
If to me it was more of a need.
And not a want to satisfy temporarily.

'I'm confused.
Although appreciate what it is this you do.
Yet...
Tell me,
What is the difference?'

The difference?
Hopefully there will come a day,
That difference made to make...
Will be clearer without explanation.
And for you made understood.
To understand what this is even better!
Without explanation to get it,
Neither to want nor need.

'Hmmm.
Thank you.'

That's exactly,
What I needed.
From you heard and wanted to hear.
Your words to say them are most welcomed.

'Hmmm.
Are you sure you're feeling okay?'

I am feeling miraculously fabulous!
