Granite Throne

Scanning distant horizons, touching sky
Ascension’s rewards, deeply gratify
Vantage place dazzling, pivot to face
Sight unimpeded, finest view anyplace

Stony pathway, straddles ridgeline crest
Dauntless gait, evokes legendary quest
Gazing distant scenes, confident each stride
Summit surmounted, bask with deserved pride

Alight craggy perch, roost on granite throne
Savor wild domain, from jagged backbone
Pause for bearings, energy to recoup
Survey map contours, atop regal stoop

Swig precious water, munch jerky or gorp
Traveler’s brisk feast, forget knife and fork
Slow this moment, lean into steady breeze
Rest plus substance, resiliency keys

Compass consulted, rocky course plotted
Distant trudge ahead, boot laces knotted
Amidst each distant peak, trail slaloms steep
Gravity relentless, valleys yawn deep

Ample breather taken, daylight burning
Face exploits ahead, with urgent yearning
Onward and beyond, landscapes to wander
Next triumph found, on rise over yonder
