Nature

As the birds sing good morning
I recall the days when I was young
Waking up on a Sunday morning to my father hollering “breakfast”

My mother, a nurse, often slept through breakfast.
My father, a bookkeeper, let her sleep.
My brothers and sister took their time getting to the table knowing Sunday School was on the way.

I, being the youngest, looked forward to getting up and going to Sunday School.  I was too young to experience what they had experienced in a Pentecostal church.

As my neighbors take their dog and go to wherever they go to worship God, the birds still chirp their happy tune.  I listen to them because as a child I appreciated nature, it speaks to me, as God intended it to.  I know my siblings enjoyed nature also, each in our own way.

Nature.  God’s entertainment.  It costs us nothing, but time to listen.
