Relapse

Relapse

There is no freedom in expression
Only regret, pain
And the weight of chains heavier than the last
There is no relief in feeling
Only whispers of the mockers and the derision of the crowd
The burden of enduring every emotion
Loving, hurting - compulsively
Masticating on the bones of rage - silently

About this poem

We are taught to express our feelings and never suppress them but we receive judgement and criticism from those around us when we open up, this serves as a reminder that we are better off suppressing our emotions. The title ‘Relapse’ is an indication that we try to communicate our feelings to others but when we observe the response - we understand why we withhold our feelings in the first place. This poem is about regret.
