Our love died

Hope Themba Twala 2002 (Gauteng in Vereeniging)

Our love died
No matter how much I tried
You have now chosen another way
A way that led you astray

Our love died
No matter how much I tried
Sometimes I wish I had a say
Even though you chose to push me away

I rose up from the ground
Where you and I were a compound
But now I'm an element
Oh far away our love went

I rose up from the ground
Where you were nowhere to be found
Because you held on to the past
Believing that we'd never last

If only you could open your eyes and see
That an apple doesn't fall far from the tree
You'd realize how important someone can be
And most especially someone like me

We fought, we debated
We acted like we never dated
In what I wrote there is no lie
It is true that indeed our love died

About this poem

My poem is about lost love. It focuses on how falling in love with someone who doesn't feel the same way can be. It mainly focuses on how one can be so in love and not be able to receive the love they gave. My poem gives a clear picture of how love is supposed to be and how is supposed to feel like. It reflects on how it used to be versus how it now is.
