Horcrux

What do I do with it?
The love you left behind
It doesn’t fit the hollow of my chest anymore
Faltering in moonshine
How long has it known you’d walk away?
Whispering my name with no purpose
There is no soul in its body

Rivers don’t belong in a dead shallow wind

In rare occasions, I think I hear your heartbeat
Your voice

Yet when I turn around I am greeted with a graveyard
Tombstones of broken prophecy
“Darling”
“Angel”
“Muse”
Each carved with a switch blade
The names you used to call me

Once all beckoned me, now they just taste like dust
Memories drift in the stirring night sky

Folktales say it’s a simple remedy
But it’s no easy task to kill a ghost that only remembers how to spell your name

-Was i your unfinished business?

About this poem

This poem was written out of anger and confusion. Sometimes we love someone who doesn’t care, and then as you walk away you can feel them begging you to stay. Have you ever felt haunted by those that wronged you? This is about that sort of feeling.
