Dancing in the rain

I cry now, but before I was laughing.
I stand now, but before I was dancing.
Dancing in the rain, my dress flying side to side as I circle around,
bouncing, laughing, searching around.
Searching for you.

You give me that smile, the one that reaches your eyes, and they shine.
You give me that look, the one that says go ahead, let your head hang in the sky with the stars.
And I laugh aloud, my voice mingling in the air carried by the winds,
And swallowed up by the loud sound of the rain.
But no matter,
because at that moment you made me feel like I matter.

And then death visited and stole you from me.
I’m left behind with the mementos of your love,
As if that’s enough for me to not wish you were alive.
My only father, like I could have another.

So, I cry now, but before I was laughing;
And I lay now, but before, I was dancing in the rain.
