a young voice

Land of the free.
Not so much when you're a woman.
We’re told in the national anthem,“the land of the free and at the home of the brave”
One is true.
But it’s not the one you’d think.
Because it's not the land of the free.
It's a ‘home’ of the supreme court deciding to take away the rights of HUMANS.
Of WOMEN.
It's a women's decision to get an abortion, not a man's.
Not anyone else's
What this place is, is the home of the brave.
The brave women who have made the decision.
The brave people who are able to protest the rights that are slipping from our grasps.
I’m afraid for the future.
I'm afraid my rights to marry will be taken away.
I’m afraid that one day I will get pregnant without my consent.
I won’t be able to do anything.
I have no rights.
They were taken away by a man.
And if I do find a place to get an abortion that will allow me.
The man who gave me the child I didn't consent for, can take me to court.
Sue me. And win
I’m afraid one day I'll have to marry a man I truly don’t love at all because,
my rights as an LGBTQ+ member were taken from me.
Land of the free is a bunch of bullshit.

About this poem
