Bill

Douglas H. Mc Clintock 1934 (Sarnia, Ontario)

I once knew a man named Bill, Bill Lucas, that is,
Delivering mail to my country store.
Of all people, he was God's witness
He was no one to ignore !

With his wife, Mary, they were a loving couple,
He  dressed in black, Mary in long skirt and bonnet,
Two country people always with a chuckle,
Their life spoke for itself, it was no secret !

I made a deal with Bill
If you deliver my mail inside  and not the mail box,
Two pints of chocolate milk for both to swill
He accepted like a sly fox !

Bill and Mary were the town's characters
A lively step and a friendly hello,
They were always a team, always together,
Two peas in a pod, never a solo !

Bill had his own church, yes he did
And I went to see what it was all about,
The congregation numbered six, it was a classic,
The message never left you in doubt !

Well Bill and Mary retired
And it was never the same
But whenever they came in to acknowledge
Two free chocolate milks was theirs to reclaim !

We all meet different people in life
I met two real living angels in my lifetime
Never to be forgotten amongst the strife
Two precious souls in God's eternal home !

So what about you and me ?
Will we be remembered or just a drop in the bucket ?
I have said it before, little is much
When God is there !

Just Bill and Mary doing their part
Making their mark to count
Never to be forgotten,
Both a God character, are you one ?
