The dreaded DBS Check

Royston 1946 (Reading)

The sins of the past are haunting this old man of today.
I wish I’d never done them and could wash them away.
But they are recorded in the lawful records of old
and by a DBS check to the whole world are told.

Hang me up high, Lord, for the world to see
the awful person that I’ve turned out to be,
and on a plaque, Lord, record the things done
by this sinful man, Lord, this wretched one.

Smite me and pierce me, even spit in my face.
My sin is before me and I’m filled with disgrace.
And as I hang there, Lord, with my last breath,
I cry forgive me, Lord,
For the wages
of sin is
DEATH,

Because of Jesus I go free.
Because He suffered there for me.
Because He stayed and did not run.
Because He said 'God's will be done'.

About this poem

Galatians 2:20—I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
