Dulcinea

Call me Quixote
Lord of La Mancha
You, donned Dulcinea;
You of my bound, beating
Heart.

This heart longs for your Heaven
Though it lives in a lesser
Realm. You’ve captured its compassion
Like the hordes who will give your theirs,
Their hopes.

Dulcinea, of fair demeanor,
It is you who I yearn for in this world,
Though the prey in your pond and greater than
In mine, I still carnivorously crave
For your love.

About this poem

Written for the subject of my love. Inspired by Don Quixote and his love of the lady Dulcinea del Toboso. It was more for fun and expression than to win her over. The syllables in this poem go up by one every two lines, save the last line of each stanza which goes up by one syllable each stanza. Each line uses alliteration of a different letter (save the last line of each stanza.) The Heaven part refers to the fact that she is religious and I am not, but could also be interpreted differently with less context. My first poem that I fully created and am proud of it although it doesn’t fully accurately portray my feelings for whom this is dedicated to. I hope you have as much fun reading it as I did writing it. I’d love any feedback, I’m only 14 so I’ve got a lot to learn about poetry (and about love.)
