Repeated Dead End Reached

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

Repeated of a dead end reached.
Follow blindly not to notice,
The familiarity...
Of a cemented brick wall.
Warned not to trespass.
Or dared at all.
Again left to leave disbelieved.
By those told to use their heads to think.
And not as tools used,
To open huge holes to squeeze through...
The same wall.
With a doing to painfully bleed.
Then to question why,
There is nothing on the other side.
But drifting tumbleweeds.
Found to be exactly that, repeatedly.

And...
Repeatedly repeated,
Are their travels to visit a dead end reached.
Followed blindly not to notice,
Dried blood stains.
Broken teeth in the skulls,
Of human remains.
As if determined to make something,
Out of nothing.
Yet repeatedly what for others,
Had been obviously a dead end reached?
Apparently for some,
Even death to face...
Was not enough to convince them!
And perhaps too graphic a message,
Can go ignored for it to be taught to teach.

Many fill the streets in Madrid, Spain.
Seeking to be chased and crushed by Bulls!
Why?

'Excuse us.
We were told not to go near,
Or up this road.
But...
That huge sign you are attaching,
Those flashing neon lights...that flash...
DO NOT TRESPASS.
AVOID BEING TEMPTED TO HIT YOUR HEAD,
AGAINST A CEMENTED BRICK WALL.
THERE IS NOTHING OF BENEFIT,
ON THE OTHER SIDE OF IT. DO NOT...
REPEAT...DO NOT BE STUPID!

We are curious.
Should we or should we not,
Take such a warning that seriously?'

'No.
Not at all.
This sign will hopefully attract more fools.
You know,
Years ago...
I built and installed a smaller one.
I did not believe I would live to see,
People actually be that dumb.
But realized...
A fortune right before my eyes.
I could get funding if I proved,
People would go out of their way...
To choose stupidity as an art form!
The bigger the warning?
The bigger the crowds.'

'So...
Where is that wall?'

'Straight ahead.
Up that road.
And for those of you seeking souvenirs?
I have loose bricks you can buy.
At a discounted price.
To practice.
Until the dumbness arrives to satisfy,
Your complete feeling of desired stupidity.
However...
That purchase is only offered,
To those going to the wall.
No need to rush to fill the buckets.
Only a few will do,
To achieve whatever that is...
You seek as pleasure.'
