Appealing Wisdom
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Does not wisdom call with her voice?
At the crossroad she takes her stand;
That is making your heart rejoice,
For the judgment as to demand.
She stands and placing in your path,
Crying out at the entry gate;
Guiding you away from the wrath,
Where it is narrow and is straight.
God calls by crying out to man,
The simple ones must learn prudence;
As He speaks of His noble plan,
For the fools need to learn some sense.
Possess an understanding heart,
Hearing the most excellent things;
From their lips what is right impart,
And the righteousness that it brings.
For His mouth will utter the truth,
Wickedness is an odium;
As evil is very uncouth,
Which is an abomination.
All words from His mouth are righteous,
Nothing as froward or perverse;
Straight understanding as justice,
Condemns the defiled who curse.
Those who are straight will understand,
Finding the knowledge and wisdom;
Following what He would command,
To be allowed into His Kingdom.
Take instruction and not silver,
And knowledge rather than choice gold;
Avoiding the snake who will sliver,
Who others their soul has been sold.
For wisdom is better than jewels,
Your desires cannot compare;
Wisdom always gives you the tools,
Of the knowledge that God will share.
