Sorry I missed your call,
sorry I wasn’t there at all,
sorry I had no time for y'all,
I was busy in the thick of it all.
I was busy trying to breathe,
busy crawling from underneath,
busy catching a breath of relief,
busy contemplating my grief.
I was busy trying to stay sane,
busy trying to avoid all the pain,
busy running from the cold rain.
I was busy rebuilding my frame,
busy trying to rekindle my flame,
busy trying to live without shame,
busy striving to win the life game.
I was busy trying to get through it all,
busy hanging in there like a poor doll,
I was busy fighting to keep my soul.
