I Promised Yet Did Not Do

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

Yesterday came.
And,
Like so many others...
I promised,
Yet did not do.
To spend that time,
Doing to dismiss...
A rest I much needed.
Told would improve my mood and attitude.

So caught up in the trying to make sense,
Of stuff that made none.
But I was made convinced,
My involvement would make...
All the difference.
And...
I could not stop to have it occur to me,
That attempt was done.
To leave me stressed out and iritated.

Yesterday.
Came and went.
As I laid to stay away,
From all the nonsense.
In an attempt to prevent it,
Coming to interfere and disturb...
My intention to rest
With a much need to get.
And like so many others,
I promised myself yet did not do.
Wondering about my neighbors.
About how these times were affecting them.
To already know to hear them shouting,
Who was doing what, when and where.
That had nothing to do with any of us.
Yesterday.
The day before.
Or tomorrow that has not come to arrive.
Making it difficult,
To me and also to them too it seems...
In the staying away,
From business not ours.

And yet...
There is something about,
Not being able to mind our own business.
Has a way of making us all feel,
It is a must and our duty...
To participate in B.S. not ours to create.

'Hello.
Good morning.
And how are you feeling these days?'

'Don't bother me.
I'm not having that nonsense,
From you or anyone else.'

'Well...
I am told rest to get,
Solves moods not intended...
To express and expect others to accept them.'

'I'm not expressing to expect,
From you anything.
Leave me alone and mind your own business.'

'But...
I am your mother!'

'Point well stated.
And that alone to know it,
Should not need from me an explanation!'

'OK!
I get the message.
So...
What should I do,
With the homemade cookies.
I made just for you?'

'Mom?
Please don't tempt me,
To say something tomorrow...
God knows you won't forget and I will regret!'

'Like what, honey?'

'Ma?
Love of my life.
Remember as a child you use to say,
Don't go near the pot.
If something in it is boiling hot?'

'Yes, dear.
But...
I don't see anything in the kitchen boiling.'

'And you won't.
If you just leave the cookies.
And, I'll explain to you,
What that means to me now...
Another day.'

'Oh?
OH...OKAY.
Get some rest.
And not say you will do it.
Just do it anyway.
Love you.
And, your moody attitudes.'

'Whatever!'
