A novel idea in the 60’s…to the present
A novel idea in the 60’s…to the present
Take away was a math problem
For most of us a term often used,
Back in the day this term was new.
Subtraction in math a means to reduce,
Taking away had nothing to lose.
A means to transport food from a store,
Packages now used are cheap to afford.
From pizza, to salads, sushi to soup,
These containers are preferred and abused.
Pizza was something to do with leaning tower
The leaning tower of Pisa the tower stands,
The way in which its viewed confusion demands.
For hundreds of years the tower was viewed,
Thousands still visited a marvel it drew.
The tower of pizza the dough never used,
The slope to the tower all were confused.
No oven to cook no toppings were made,
Still its slopped the young remain dazed.
Rice eaten as pudding
A dessert a treat made with rice,
A creative way to promote & entice.
Rice, milk, eggs, sugar & cream,
Bring to a boil let cool what a dream.
White or brown something in between,
A sidekick for meat, fish is what it’s seems,
The white texture just boils up.
A pot of water a side dish …right?
Curry was a surname not a spice
What’s in a name Curry just the same,
A surname is all that was used.
A name purposed only for those,
Unique, special understood I suppose.
A robust flavour, created & savoured,
A spice added to sweeten the pot.
An Indian spice created and delight,
Its fragrance confused most will not.
Calamari was a fish used as bait
White long and found in the sea,
Used as bait as fishermen will agree.
Italian for squid calamari is derived,
Catch coalfish, dogfish & bass soon realized.
Its long and skinny the slippery type,
Tasty when cooked, fried just right.
Appetizer or main course a feast for the eyes,
Don’t knock it until you have tried.
The tv was b/w with no remote
Big box in the corner with legs attached,
Getting up to change it with dial attached.
To change the channel a daunting task,
Black & white rabbit ears in the back.
Screen so thin it hangs on the wall,
Thousands of channels remembering them all.
Wireless remote with batteries within,
Losing the remote your done in.
Cooking outside was called camping
Going up north an adventure to drive,
The great outdoors & cooking outside.
Pitching a tent, a Coleman stove set,
Cooking in the outdoor camping the best.
Set a fire in the oven to bake,
Pizza is made mosquitoes for sake,
Back of the house open the door,
Convenience of home what’s camping for.
We never had elbows or phones at the table
The table is set all gather here,
The family together we pray here.
Dinner at 6 is set in stone,
No elbows at the table sets the tone.
Whether its five six or seven no one’s home,
No one eats together we all eat alone.
Elbows on the table etiquette is gone,
Phones at the table silence now belongs.
A cassette tape and a pencil to rewind
The way of music a cassette was created,
To store our music this was debated.
Device to record catching the tape again,
Pencil to the rescue spooling rewinding in vain.
iTunes, mp3, digital recording alike,
Small efficient oh such a delight.
Thousands of songs efficient too,
Too young to remember an insignificant brute.
A glimpse of the age’s changes in store,
Remembering our past in photographs & more.
Technology through the years how each view,
Explaining how it worked this poem proved.
