The Thief

Gaia 1994

You stole half of my life
And all it took from you was a few moments in time.

That replay in my head
And I have to remind myself
That this body
Is mine.

I wonder what was going through your mind,
How you could just walk into my room
At age nine,

Through twelve
And I’ll never forget
Not being able to yell
Frozen in fear
And you’d say
“It’s okay, let me hold you near”

And when I told my mother,
You looked her in the eye
“Baby, I would never”

You stole half of my life
And my mother’s too
When you decided
We’d both be for you.
